DINUTRITION

Fresh salsa is an easy, low calorie dish that is pleasing to the eye and palate. Use it to top fish, accompany Mexican food, or simply eat it with corn chips. (The quacamole in the photo is simply mashed avocado, lime juice, salt and pepper). 

Salsa Ingredients:

3 medium-sized tomatoes, diced
1 pepper (any color), diced
½ red onion, finely diced
½ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
the juice from one lime
salt and pepper to taste

Mix the tomatoes, pepper, onion and cilantro in a large bowl. Add the lime juice and salt and pepper to the vegetables and toss. Makes about 3 cups of salsa.

Nutrition (per 1/2 cup serving, or 1/6 of the recipe):

  • Calories: 24
  • Carbs: 5.3 g
  • Protein: 0.8 g
  • Fat: 0.2 g
  • Fibre: 1.3 g
